"Time", as we understand it, apply it and "use" it, is something that humans have designed themselves. Something to explain the great mechanisms in the universe or simply to bring order to everyday things. We need, take and give,

waste and save, spend, fritter and dedicate time. Sometimes we sacrifice it and kill it. All of this for a specific purpose, for a person or simply out of inner drive.

And we do that by giving time a framework. A definition of "from-to", a date or simply a time. With this framework, time becomes tangible for everyone and can be communicated. Even though not every framework looks the same for everyone. Not everyone understands time the same way and for many it passes and most people understand it differently (than others).

But the basic principle with which we make something so absolute manageable is always the same. It is always a framework around something that can be eternal, slow, boring, drawn-out, fast, rapid and stormy: ZEIT.

Literally decisive for this theme cycle was a picture of the Aurora Borealis with a mountain on the horizon below, which reminded me directly of a metronome. From the resulting idea, I first developed the study ZEIT, in order to later implement the first work in acrylic on canvas and everything that followed.

Study Time
